I would like to suggest a re-evaluation of the current approach to taxation, particularly concerning salaried employees. Countries around the world are focusing on attracting and retaining talent—individuals who can strategise the future of their institutions and drive success through their innovation and experience.

If we burden our top talent with unfair and ever-increasing taxes, reducing their professional and personal freedom, these professionals will inevitably seek opportunities elsewhere.

In today’s global landscape, we are in the midst of a fierce talent war. Nations are competing to attract the best and brightest minds to drive their economies forward. It is crucial for Pakistan to not push our skilled professionals away.

Instead, if we provide them with the necessary support and a conducive environment, they will ensure the success of their institutions, which in turn will drive the progress of our country.

Don’t underestimate the importance of talented professionals. They are the key to success and the pillars upon which our future growth depends. Have you considered the impact of retaining top talent within the country, rather than pushing them to their limits and driving them to leave due to the increasing taxes that offer zero return for them? It’s essential to create an environment where our brightest minds can thrive and contribute to the nation’s growth without feeling compelled to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Countries run on taxes, not on charity. However, successful countries allocate tax income for the benefit of their citizens and the well-being of their children. They provide their citizens with safety, quality education, healthcare, and a good living environment based on the rule of law. These investments ensure a stable and prosperous society, where the taxes paid translate into tangible benefits and improvements in the quality of life.

Can you also consider the return on taxes here, while looking at examples of other countries? For instance, in many Scandinavian countries, high taxes fund comprehensive social welfare systems that include free education, universal healthcare, and extensive public services. These nations have mastered the art of reinvesting tax revenues to create a supportive ecosystem for their citizens, ensuring that everyone benefits from the collective contributions.

Similarly, countries like Germany and Canada use tax revenues to support robust public infrastructure, healthcare, and education systems, providing a high standard of living for their citizens. These examples demonstrate how effectively managed tax systems can yield significant returns for the public, enhancing overall societal well-being.

In contrast, if our talented professionals feel that their contributions are not reciprocated with adequate public services and support, they may feel disillusioned and seek better opportunities abroad. This brain drain can have long-term detrimental effects on our economy and societal development.

It is time to rethink our taxation strategy to ensure we are not driving away the very individuals who can propel our nation towards success. By fostering a supportive environment for our skilled professionals, we can build a prosperous and stable future for Pakistan.

Let us strive to create a system where taxes are viewed not as a burden but as a contribution towards a better, more prosperous nation. By doing so, we can retain our top talent and ensure that their efforts and innovations benefit our country and its citizens.
