Elon Musk’s recommendation that MrBeast, a hugely successful YouTuber, upload his videos to X was met with a harsh criticism of the struggling social media platform’s monetisation methods.
Musk seemed to support the notion after MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, stated on X that his most recent movie was now available on YouTube. One person proposed that MrBeast upload it to X that was formerly known as Twitter.
“I uploaded, go watch or I’ll drop kick you,” Donaldson wrote on December 30. “Upload on this platform too,” a user named DogeDesigner added. “Yeah,” Musk said.
Donaldson then explained why he wouldn’t be going along with that plan. “My videos cost millions to make, and even if they got a billion views on X, it wouldn’t fund a fraction of it :/,” he wrote in response.
Although he added, “I’m down though to test stuff once monetization is really cranking!”
As of the time of writing, 54 million people had viewed his most recent film, “I Spent 7 Days In Solitary Confinement”. The channel owned by Donaldson boasts a total of 224 million members.
Musk proposed the same idea in June 2023. In response to a tweet from Donaldson, he said, “Post to his platform too. Earnings per view should be competitive with YouTube. If not, we will adjust.”
